The Sound of Music & Desert Bus 2019

Well, it’s that time of year again; the time of year when I get to play with my friends in Victoria and help raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for children’s hospitals all over the world.

”Desert Bus for Hope”, for those not in the know, is a week-long variety show that streams 24 hours a day to raise money for Child’s Play. You can watch the stream HERE, and if you tune-in between 9am and 3pm this Monday, November 11th you’ll be able to see me and Madeleine Suddaby sing songs, play improv games, and generally have too much fun for a good cause.

Desert Bus is happening NOW and will continue until sometime next Thursday night; the more money you give us, the longer the event lasts! When I can, I like to participate for the whole week. Not this year though. This year I’m in the middle of previews for a musical — and I am choosing to travel back and forth between cities on my only day off. FOR THE CHILDREN.

What’s the show? Thanks for asking, rhetorical device! It’s “The Sound of Music” at the Arts Club in Vancouver! I’m playing Uncle Max. The rest of the cast is STACKED, folks. Some of the best talent in the city. Get your tickets sooner than later (they’re selling fast!)

There’s something eerie about watching all the von Trapp children line up and introduce themselves. I’ve seen so many iterations of that moment; in the movie, in other live productions. There’s something ritualistic in the blocking. Something uncanny, like the show itself is a greater cosmic organism, possessing a company of actors, forcing us to arrange our bodies and voices in rites unknown for purposes unknowable …

Anyway, come see our show! And watch Desert Bus! :D
